Oh quiet season... you don't feel particularly festive.

I've said it once of late and I will say it again - hirers, please keep in touch with applicants, especially those who have given time (and likely incurred costs) coming to meet you.

Yes it's busy but it literally takes a few seconds to send an email - just some token of acknowledgement In fact I'll pop a sample below to speed it up even further for you...

'Thanks so much for coming in to see us - we enjoyed meeting you. We have gone with another candidate on this occasion and wanted to let you know so you aren't left waiting for news. Wishing you well for the festive season.'

VOILA. Feel free to copy and paste. That's all it takes.

Saying you didn't get the job leaves someone feeling that there is a conclusion - rather than left wondering if there is still a chance. Not hearing back when there is so little freelance work - in my opinion - feels worse than hearing you weren't successful.

If you don't hear back from a job before offices close for Christmas I send a big hug - it is a shitty feeling. Please know that you were likely brilliant but there are many brilliant people available atm - the market is flooded... and it means that even if you shone at IV, and even if you felt it was the perfect role, it doesn't mean you weren't good enough just that there's simply not enough roles for everyone.

Keep spirits and heads high, communication positive and do what you need to do to get by.

The TV charity is available for advice, there's no shame is taking JSA or a temp job and the tide always returns. Ot might just take a while longer this time.

And whilst no news hopefully means no news... also give yourself a deadline - if you know a job was to start this side of Christmas or immediately after and you haven't heard back by (pick your own date) then remove it from your thoughts, move forward and don't let the wondering take over your mind ❤️
