A Bad Wolf exec named as one of The TV Collective’s ‘Breakthrough Leaders’ has launched a diversity-focused drama indie.

Cardiff-based 5 Acts is headed up by David P Davis, who executive produced Bad Wolf’s HBO/BBC2 drama Industry.

Davis said he would “champion diversity in the purest sense of the word”, working with writers and directors “on their passion projects that might have been overlooked or misunderstood elsewhere”.

Davis is creative director at the company, which is part of ITV Studios and will be sit within the production studio run by Adult Material and Fortitude executive producer Patrick Spence.

Set up in 2019, the studio also umbrellas Nicola Shindler’s Manchester indie Quay Street Productions and German label Windlight Pictures.

Davis was one of 51 mid- to senior-level BAME professionals chosen as The TV Collective’s inaugural ‘Breakthrough Leaders’, who will undergo a year-long programme of mentoring to accelerate them into leadership positions.

Starting out as a VT director on studio shows such as Blue Peter, Trisha Goddard, T4 and Newsround, Davis became a medical researcher on BBC1 drama Holby City prior to script editing Casualty, Merlin and Doctor Who. He has also worked on Left Bank’s Channel 4/Sony/Amazon Philip K Dick anthology Electric Dreams.
