Amazon Prime and the National Film and Television School have teamed up to train out-of-work freelancers in broader non-TV skills and are also giving six under-represented executive producers a year’s paid work.

From today and across the next five weeks, the organisations are running 27 online daytime webinars, plus an intensive three-month, in-person programme for freelancers who have been out work for more than four months.

Areas covered by the ReSkill UpSkill programme include podcasting, digital, AI, project management, career pivoting, and speed coaching.

While places on this week’s programme are full, tickets are available for the second week, with booking for the third week going live today.

Meanwhile, Workerbee, Story Films, Studio Lambert, Optomen, Fremantle UK and Initial will each take on an executive producer from an under-represented community on full salary on a year’s contract funded through the Prime Video Pathway.

The £10 funding pot will also go towards sponsoring the 31 mid-career women taking part in next year’s Wonder Women Programme and its accompanying live event in Manchester in March.

Applications for Wonder Women are now open with a deadline of 29 November.

NFTS director Jon Wardle said: “Freelancers across the creative industries are continuing to navigate significant challenges, and this expanded commitment from Prime Video will offer timely and much-needed support.

“By combining the free accessible online training delivered by the NFTS, with intensive in-person guidance, the freelance workforce will be able to expand their skills, regain momentum and lay the foundations for sustainable long-term careers.”
