Don’t Get Catfished indie After Party Studios has been named multichannel production company of the year at this year’s Broadcast Digital Awards.

The company was recognised for its breadth of content with commissions from YouTube (The Sidemen charity match), Paramount (In Search of Peace), Netflix (Stranger Things: a Strangely British Christmas Party) and Channel 4’s digital platform Channel 4.0, which ordered a second series of Don’t Get Catfished before series one was released.

Sister Group recently bought a majority stake in After Party Studios, which judges praised for its diversity and its “true blend of creative innovation with creative know-how”.

Also shortlisted were Firecrest Films, FirstLook Studios, JustSo, Yeti Television and Zandaland.

Channel 4.0 was named Best Entertainment Channel at last night’s awards, but was beaten to the Channel of the Year prize by History Hit.

The specialist factual SVoD platform also edged out big-hitters BBC3, BBC4, CBBC, and U&Drama to the award.

Judges praised History Hit’s “combination of inventive and original content, savvy commercial thinking and laser-focused clarity regarding it what its audience wants”, declaring that it “represents a template for how the next generation of digital business can really cut through”.  

History Hit was also named Best Factual Channel.

Curious Films’ Disney+ two-parter Caroline Flack: Search for the Truth (Best Documentary Series);

Dare Pictures’ C4 doc UK Prisons Exposed: Sex, Drugs & Corruption (Best Current Affairs Programme);

Studio Ramsay’s Apple+ series Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars (Best Popular Factual Programme);

and Fan Studios/WPP Media Motion Entertainment’s 5 series Darcus Beese: In His Own Words (Best Documentary Programme).
