I see you have a tool which helps people record privately their experiences of bullying, which is great. But how can you help people take action. This is the knarley issue for freelancers as no one wants to put their own neck on the line in case they get a reputation as a moaner. Also what if you're a witness, not a victim, how can you help?

1/4 @PaulDurgan Thanks, those are some great questions.
If you’re a witness to bullying there are things you can do to help. It’s always good to open dialogue with the person who is being bullied, let them know that you care and discuss how they want to approach the situation. You can tell them how to access our services so that they can find out what their options are.

2/4 Witnessing bullying can have negative effects on your own wellbeing, so I advise that you monitor yourself and if you feel like you need support, get in touch.
I would also suggest that you use the recording tool - Spot - to take notes of the bullying you’re witnessing. It could help to build a case if the bullying gets worse or isn't addressed.

3/4 And in terms of taking action, it completely depends on your circumstances. Sometimes it's enough just to talk through what has happened and get a better understanding of it. You may wish to take things a step further to tackle the situation. You might want to access further support or you may need legal advice, which is why I’m here!

Is the bullying advisor service available to freelancers and employees or just freelancers and how much time would each person get allocated with him or her?

@KateMisrahi Anyone can call the service, regardless of employment status. You will have an initial hour session and then a follow up. - Bullying Pathway Advisor

What can people expect to happen if they wanted to get in touch with the Bullying Pathway Advisor but were nervous about speaking out? Is it all online or are they calls and meetings?

The service is completely confidential. You may be asked to provide anonymous information to help improve the service but nothing that would ever identify you. The one-to-one's will be over the phone. - Bullying Advisor

I have to echo Paul's question. Being a victim of bullying is one thing but calling it out as a witness is really tough. I witnessed terrible bullying at one point in the last few years, actually repeatedly by the same individual. The person was even rehired by the production company it was raised with. I saw several individuals either leave the productions or stay and have an absolutely horrific time. Is there some kind of charter that can be drawn up that we could ask production companies to sign up to? Is there any chance of getting proper HR procedures in TV? We can make our anonymous complaints and have warm and supportive chats about our wellbeing but what is really needed are procedures to complain and be heard and that complaint registered.

Bullying is a significant issue for me and complaining about it has costed me my 20 year career. I am disabled with Crohns disease which has led to me having to have loads of surgery and a Stoma bag. I was walked out of a job because of intolerance of me having to manage it during the day. Which I have no choice to. I complained about it and consequently TOVS dropped me and refused to help me find work while I am shielding in this pandemic. Bullying is an extremely destructive and nasty thing.

@SarahLee Thanks Sarah. I have found myself in a worsening situation due to covid and the actions of employers you hope have your back as an individual with a chronic illness. Sadly we have a long way to go by my experiences.
