Fremantle have shared release details of a show I drama produced last year – we blended AI with VFX to ‘face swap’ American serial killer Aileen Wuornos’s face onto the very talented Morag Peacock, whose performance, movements and voice were very much at the heart of portraying Aileen.
I wanted to be part of this project to see what the technology could really do, while still holding on to the fundamentals of traditional filmmaking – working with actors, a full crew and creating the performance on set.
For me, that balance was one of the most interesting parts of the project: using AI as another filmmaking tool, rather than a replacement for the people and craft behind the camera.
