Read moreFremantle have shared release details of a show I drama produced last year – we blended AI with VFX to ‘face swap’ American serial killer Aileen Wuornos’s face onto the very talented Morag Peacock, whose performance, movements and voice were very much at the heart of portraying Aileen.
I wanted to be part of this project to see what the technology could really do, while still holding on to the fundamentals of traditional filmmaking – working with actors, a full crew and creating the performance on set.
For me, that balance was one of the most interesting parts of the project: using AI as another filmmaking tool, rather than a replacement for the people and craft behind the camera.

New docuseries brings serial killer back to life using AI 🔎Investigation Discovery has greenlit Unmasking A Monster: Aileen Wuornos — a true-crime docuseries that uses innovative digital replication, AI and VFX techniques to capture the likeness of Aileen Wournos, the woman widely considered as one of America’s first female serial killers.Using AI technology in a way rarely seen in documentary storytelling, Wuornos — who died in 2002 — will be portrayed by actor Morag Peacock, who will provide the voice, movements and interpretation that will be combined to create a digitally recreated likeness of Wuornos.Unmasking A Monster: Aileen Wuornos marks one of the first documentary projects to apply this technology in this way.The remaining families of the victims, others connected to the story, and all individuals whose likenesses were digitally replicated gave their consent.Coming 30 September.Produced by Arrow Media (a Fremantle company).#MadeByFremantle
