What a week!
A fantastic Women in Film and Television UK Showcase following the Kay Mellor Lab 2025 sponsored and hosted by Diageo in London.
Reuniting with my cohort from our time at Arvon was my absolute highlight, hearing how everyone has moved on and moved up!
And reflecting in our Q&A with Christina Pickworth on what we took from this lab and how our writing journeys have been shaped by our passion for storytelling.
Alongside Holly Smith-Williams intense thriller 'The Alumni', my pilot, 'The Boob Group' was read by professional actors 🫠
The premise is about a man with breast cancer, a regular guy now facing a gender identity crisis at a time when his children are starting to butt-up against ingrained gender-norms themselves.
I always like my stories to invite the audience to examine how they feel about something they've likely never considered before.
The table read was an absolute delight, the chemistry between the performers was tangible and the reaction and engagement from the audience was something I'll never forget.
I met some incredible women in the bar afterwards, and it never ceases to impress me that the community of women Gina Lyons has created with Gobby Girl Productions is an instant ice breaker - a beacon in the darkness for connecting with awesome women.
A few years ago I listened to a talk from a published author who said every time she got a book published, she'd buy a diamond ring. I can't quite afford diamonds (yet) but for the last few years I've celebrated my monumental moments buying a lipstick. A beautiful disproportionately priced warrior paint that every time I pull out of my make up bag I wear the success from that event.
And I name them too. After the person who took a chance on me and opened the door.
So what's this one called?
🤐 Something I keep for myself. A little bit of their belief in my pocket when I'm nervous. A touch of their enthusiasm for my work on my lips to give me the courage to tell the world I believe in myself.
How do you pocket a little piece of your successes?
