Helen Tompson is a UK-based screenwriter working across drama, comedy-drama, and thriller, with a particular interest in character-led storytelling and reimagining familiar worlds from overlooked perspectives.

Her work explores identity, power, class, and the moments where small human decisions carry disproportionate weight.She is drawn to stories that sit in the gaps between certainty and doubt, where meaning lives beneath the surface and characters are forced to confront what they think they know.

Whether writing original work or approaching existing material, Helen’s focus is always on character, intent, and emotional truth.

Helen’s work has been supported through multiple development schemes and labs, including Kay Mellow Screenwriter's Lab (WFTV), The Network (TV Foundation) and several BFI Network labs (Horror, Mentoring).

Her short films Like Buses and Brick by Brick are in active circulation, with theatrical releases and festivals forthcoming. She is currently developing original projects for film and television, alongside adaptation-led ideas that interrogate classic texts through a contemporary lens.

Alongside her writing practice, Helen is an experienced script reader and adjudicator, trusted for her clarity, rigour, and instinct for story, and supporrts the teaching of screenwriting techniques through Falmouth University and the BFI.
