The late Frederick Forsyth, author of The Day of the Jackal, The Odessa File, and The Dogs of War, reflects on an extraordinary life in the new BBC Arts film In My Own Words: Frederick Forsyth.

From wartime Kent under Spitfire skies to the youngest RAF pilot, Reuters and BBC correspondent, and MI6 informant, Forsyth’s life reads like one of his own thrillers. He turned these experiences into global bestsellers, including The Day of the Jackal, written in just over a month.

The film explores his triumphs, losses, and deeply personal moments, told with wit, honesty, and unseen archive footage. Forsyth passed away shortly after completing it at 86.

📺 Airs Tuesday 21st October on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

An @Orchard Studios production for BBC Arts, directed by four-time BAFTA winner Ben Anthony edited by Toby Clarkson, and executive produced by Nat Lippiett and Dan Grabiner.
