First day of London tech week today.
Plenty of talks on AI.
On the main stage was BBC Cheif Product Officer discussing how AI is changing design processes.
AI is very much the focus of the event in general.
And a pretty good showing from the media industry including jigsaw24.
And some really intersting AI Broadcast tech.
For now.. AI generative video is a gamechanger.
The issue is that while the tech is improving daily.. The tools for real granular control over it are not there yet. If you want to change details.. you’re adding pages to your prompts.and even that doesn’t guarantee you get exactly what you want. And I think putting pages of text input is a step back from our modern graphical interfaces. So making those tools more professional is the next stage for sure.
But right now..AI is really good at categorising and grouping footage..taking the boring steps from an edit. Beyond that.. it’s gonna get better at putting scenes together. There are some really simplistic ai for doing this now..but nothing usable. But it will improve. I can imagine giving it a load of shots and asking for a first cut. At first it will be super basic..but then it will good enough for some..and then likely move to be very good. The pace of improvements is startling.
Beyond that. AI artwork for thumbnails and posters is already decent. But it’s quite crazy that some software looks at work and generates nice artwork for the project automatically.
There was a striking good demonstration of a virtual presenter..and it’s not perfect yet.. but was actually able to answer questions in realtime. This was particularly interesting as it was based on a human who was talking to it live at the show.
This tech is anything but boring.
Just as transcriptions are vital in finding stuff..there is nothing wrong with using tech to help find that specific moment more quickly.id say it’s vital these days.
This is not cutting corners..but working as optimally as possible..edits don’t go on forever.. time needs to be used to its best. This tech can change the use of time. you the have more to change and tweak the edit to be even better.
