'Convicting My Ex' is out tonight at 9pm on BBC Three and iPlayer.
It tells the story of Ellie Wilson, a survivor of rape, who's life is upended when her rapist ex-boyfriend is considered for early release from prison, after only serving half of his 5 year prison sentence.
This is the first film I've directed, as part of the BBC New Documentary Directors' Initiative. It would not have been at all possible without the BBC believing in me and giving me this opportunity. Thank you to Adam Hopkins and Pete Beard, my wonderfully patient Execs at Story Films for guiding my through. And to the amazingly talented Lindsay Goodall (DOP) and Florence Kennard (editor) for being the most incredible team to work with. To Donna Blackburn (Line Producer) for making it all come together so smoothly and the whole team at Roundtable for being utter delights.
Final thanks must go to Ellie herself. She is known for being a powerful public figure, tirelessly campaigning for victim's rights. However during filming she allowed me to see her personal struggles. The 9 months of filming covered a very difficult time for her, and we both really hope that when you watch it, people can see that surviving is not a linear experience.
