My latest op-ed for The National. Sickeningly, the UK is currently in discussions with the US about slashing or abolishing altogether Britain’s digital services tax (DST) before April 2 as it seeks to avoid the worst of Trump’s global tariffs.

The current DST is due to raise £800 million in 24/25. I didn’t refer to it directly so as not to confuse the matter as it does not include subscriptions (video streaming), which are the focus of my piece, and goes into the general pot, not a content fund to stimulate home grown production.

Our futures have become a geo-political bargaining chip. We have much to learn from the Canadians who are disinvesting themselves rather impressively from the US.
