Our latest you tube ep. Strange times in TV now. Starting this Youtube channel has been a great learning experience. Pretty much everything you know about TV goes out of the window when making YT content. YouTube studio really gives you an unvarnished appraisal of every second, with a tonne of data looking at every aspect from every angle, it's pretty overwhelming and difficult to master quickly. At the same time, it does make you wonder about the state of TV and how it's failed to engage younger audiences and retain older ones, this level of feedback has never been part of the commissioning process in TV, which by contrast seems quite whimsical. What still surprises me, given the numbers of people now watching Youtube instead of TV, is TV's reluctance to engage. Most channels offer only cutdowns or trailers of existing TV content, which is missing the point, the content needs to be on Youtube itself and commissioned for it. Then maybe we can all get back to work.
