Dear All,

Re the commissioning crisis….

For what it’s worth, after meeting my MP (SNP) and consulting with other freelancers, I sent her a number of measures that could help. She has responded by writing to Ofcom (posted on the TM HUB). Please DM me if you'd like a copy of the initial letter I sent her.

I’m also meeting Scottish Labour's Shadow Culture Secretary mid April.

This won’t necessarily result in short term measures to alleviate the financial distress but I’m determined to hold the broadcasters to account and push for something to be done.

@MarkRossiter 😀 Not against! I just want the broadcasters to factor freelancers into their commercial decisions and a level playing field. 91% of C4 spending is in London, the BBC awards N&R funding to London companies that hire few N&R freelancers, digital services companies pay almost no taxes on massive revenue raised in the UK, tax breaks are given to selective genres that don't benefit most freelancers. Change is needed and we need to be proactive.

@CraigLomax @PeterStrachan This is a great idea. We can get behind it here at the TM too. We did something in covid for thr ‘forgotten freelancers’ and sent pics and biogs too to personalise it to DCMS

If there was a penny for all the TV related conversations that happen in this country then we’d all be rich, but maybe it’s time people spared for a thought for those that make it happen and the nightmare it’s been this past year.
