Thrive When Freelance: Bullying & Harassment – what you need to know
Thursday 22nd February
7pm (1 hour)
Six years on from #MeToo and more than a decade after the Savile scandal, the TV industry remains one where high profile sexual harassment cases continue to surface. What should freelancers know about how to deal with sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour and is the industry doing enough to tackle abuse in its ranks?
We know that abuse is still rife. We will talk about the power dynamics that enable abuse and the ways that freelancers are particularly vulnerable. What rights do you have? How do you report abuse, what action can be taken and - most importantly- what should employers be doing?
Join this session to learn about your rights and what good employer practice looks like. We'll also look at what constitutes bad behaviour & harassment, how to report it, and what else needs to be done to make the television workplace safe.
Chaired by Dr Rowan Aust, co-director ReelTime Media, plus:
Dr Anna Bull - Senior Lecturer in Education and Social Justice, Uni of York
Justine Walton - Bullying Service Advisor at Film and TV Charity
Deeba Syed - Senior Employment Lawyer
Becca Harris - Freelance Producer
Dean Webster - Development Executive, BECTU Unscripted Committee Member

With the desperation of accepting roles in the industry that people may not usually accept due to the lack of work/commissions (e.g. poorer working conditions, intended or unintended harassment) - what can we do now to make sure that harassment (in all forms) doesnt happen during this time of emergency in the industry.
