Our History Hit documentary on 'The First Britons' is now free to watch on YouTube, presented by Noo Saro-Wiwa and written by Noo and myself. Days after it launched Dan Snow started tweeting about how it had broken on their records to become the most-watched film on their platform. I'm very proud of it, especially as we were working on such a miniscule budget. It was my first time directing a presenter-led but I wanted to prove I could do it. The Natural History Museum drained most of the funds so I wrote the researched and wrote the script for free to prove I could do it (Noo had a separate writer fee to add her personal sections to the script). I wish we'd had more interviewees and more locations, plus more development time, but I'm so proud of how well-received it was. It was produced under History Hit's Community label - so they signed off a two sentene pitch, gave us a small budget and then just asked for some tweaks after seeing the first edit - it was a wonderful level of freedom I was given and I'm still so proud of how successful it was. Plus I love all the nature-infused sections - I was channeling my inner Attenborough!
