I'm preparing doc submissions for TV and looking back on the 17 docs I produced for History Hit (14 directed by me, 3 by Iris Gibson) and I keep coming back to my very first and how proud I am of it. It's not perfect - my grading's not great (I learnt a lot over editing those 14 docs), we included several Zoom interviews (for both budgetary and COVID-related reasons) and I didn't leave enough breathing space in the edit. But I'm still proud of making a film about statues interesting - it could have been so dull but it still feels incredibly relevant today. I'm also just so grateful that History Hit gave a solo dyspraxic filmmaker a shot with only short docs on my reel. I often struggle working for other productions companies - they have a very certain way of working and if I work things more laterally they're like 'oh, we don't do things like that', but the result I'll produce is the same, so it's bizarre. Anyway, I did better docs for History Hit, but this one's kinda special to me: https://vimeo.com/795664801
