Broadchurch director James Strong has re-teamed with producer Richard Stokes to launch a scripted indie.

The pair have unveiled Strong Film & Television, having joining forces with Matt Tombs, a veteran exec who oversaw the BBC's four-year £60m E20 programme to rebuild EastEnders' set at BBC Elstree.

The company has set out its mission to make “contemporary, emotional, and bold pieces that aim to connect with both British and international audiences”.

Strong and Stokes are joint creative directors at the indie, with Tombs named managiong director.

As well as his stint as lead director on Kudos' ITV crime drama, Strong's credits include fellow ITV series Downton Abbey, Vanity Fair and Liar, as well as Channel 4's The Mill. For the BBC, he has helmed episodes of Doctor Who and upcoming drama Vigil, starring Suranne Jones.

Stokes was most recently executive producer on The Watch, BBC Studios' fantasy drama for BBC America.

Tombs is a former UKTV drama commissioner who has since worked in strategic roles for Viacom and the BBC.
