STV Studios Drama, the Scottish scripted producer behind Netflix true-crime series The Witness, has rebranded as Blackhill.

The company, which previously made BBC dramas Elizabeth is Missing and The Victim and Channel 4’s Screws, has offices in Glasgow and London.

Named after a Scottish TV transmitting station, Blackhill is part of STV Studios’ portfolio of scripted labels alongside Blue Lights producer Two Cities Television, Criminal Record indie Tod Productions and Ferryman Films, recently set up by actor Kevin McKidd.

Blackhill creative director Sarah Brown said the company’s new identity “truly reflects where we are now – our personality, our vision and our ambition”.

She added: “Blackhill is a drama studio dedicated to bold, emotionally rich storytelling and unforgettable characters. We champion work that entertains, surprises and moves audiences, always underpinned by an uncompromising commitment to quality.

“We are proud of STV drama’s heritage, but now is the time to refresh our brand to better position us for the future and for the stories we want to tell from Scotland and beyond.”

The team also includes director of drama development Claire Armspach, director of production Sara Hamill and script editor Andy Daniel.
