Dear Documentary-maker,

Please take a moment to help improve our industry!

We need you to complete a 15 minute survey about your career experiences making Documentaries and Factual TV. The findings will be used to try and effect meaningful change; to make the television industry one of equal opportunity and equal recognition for all. We want to increase diversity and inclusion on every level.

‘We Are Doc Women’ (more details below) has developed an industry-wide survey to chart career progression and collate pay rates. We are dedicated to making this industry fairer for all.

Very little comprehensive data currently exists on our industry and, without evidence, we believe nothing will change.

The majority of the British film and television industry is made up of smaller companies (fewer than 250 employees); their size means they aren’t legally obliged to publish data.  This survey gives you the opportunity to have your experiences counted.

It will ask you about the biggest issues and challenges you face as a freelancer. Covid-19 has revealed the extent to which freelancers are unprotected by the industries they work in and we would like to rectify that.

The survey takes just 15 minutes to complete with the option to give longer answers if you want. The more information we can collect, the more robust our findings will be and the better our chance of affecting real change. You can complete the survey here: https://qtrial2013.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/preview/SV_7QFGTveQmaLMTGJ?Q_CHL=preview&Q_SurveyVersionID=current

‘We Are Doc Women’ was founded in 2017 to provide peer support for women directors working in factual television in the UK.  We have grown to become a collective of directors, producers, assistant producers and executive producers advocating for equal opportunities, greater support and fair recognition within our industry.

Thank you so much for your time and for your input.
