Grenfell: Uncovered indie Rogan Productions is moving into drama with two projects in development and the appointment of a scripted exec.

Anna Burns joins the factual producer as head of scripted development, after ten years at Buccaneer Media, initially as development script editor and latterly as executive producer.

Rogan co-founder and creative director James Rogan said that watching Buccaneer’s Channel 4 drama In Flight was “a revelation”.

“[Writer] Mike Walden is one of the great new voices of drama and under the stewardship of Anna Burns, that series delivered one of most compelling thrillers of last year,” he said.

“Anna’s track record encompasses the range and enthusiasm for diversity of storytelling in film and drama that is at the core of Rogan Productions, we are excited to work with her on what promises to be a truly thrilling slate of projects.”

Rogan dipped its toe in the water with HBO Max factual series Boom Box: Beats and Betrayal, which featured dramatized scenes alongside firsthand testimony.

“Over recent years we have built relationships with people ranging from presidents to police officers, rock stars to radicals, and told stories about global figures, investigations and events that have shaped our world,” Rogan said.

“We have been approached about our content for its scripted potential more times than we can count and we have entered some exciting partnerships.”

The company has two drama projects in funded development with broadcasters, but has not revealed further details.

Burns is Rogan’s third senior exec hire in the past year, following the appointments of Merle Currie as head of unscripted development and Jenny Popplewell as head of factual.
