Wag Entertainment, the documentary indie behind BBC festive offering Secrets of the Conclave, is to cease production after 26 years.

Owner Fremantle is to close the company a year after acquiring it through its purchase of Asacha Media Group, though Wag’s distribution arm has been spared the cut.

Stephen Green, who has been managing director of Wag since Asacha bought the company in 2021, is exiting alongside co-founder Eliya Arman, creative director Bridget Boseley, production boss Kate Gibbard and production manager Kelly Hood.

Wag’s back catalogue, which remains with Fremantle, includes Science Channel doc What on Earth?, Prime Video’s Murder Behind the Mask and Netflix/Paramount+ co-pro Don’t Pick Up the Phone.

Green said the Wag team “leaves on a high” after delivering high-profile projects including the Conclave film [main picture].

“Everyone at Wag is proud of what we’ve achieved, and this year’s success, as well as the success of the past two and half decades, is all down to the many talented people we’ve worked with,” he said.

“So on behalf of Eliya, Bridget, Kate and Kelly, a heartfelt thank you to all the freelancers and staffers, past and present, for 26 brilliant years.”

Wag's closure was first reported by Deadline.
