72 Films specialist factual head Cate Hall has joined National Geographic as a commissioning editor.
Based in London, Hall will develop and commission high-profile international factual output for Nat Geo’s linear channels as well as streaming platforms Disney+ and Hulu.
She spent four years at Fremantle label 72 Films, over two separate two-year stints, where she executive produced shows such as Netflix’s Britain and the Blitz, BBC2’s The Rise of the Murdoch Dynasty and Rise of the Nazis and series two of Amazon Prime’s 007: Road to a Million.
In between those stints, she spent three years as creative director of development at BBC Studio’s Documentary Unit, overseeing commissions such as BBC2’s Inside Our Minds with Chris Packham, Channel 4’s Freedom: 50 Years of Pride, Netflix’s Aileen: Queen of the Serial Killers.
Hall has previously worked at Wall to Wall on shows including BBC2’s Blitz: the Bombs that Changed Britain and Boundless as executive producer of BBC1’s The Apprentice.
At Nat Geo, she succeeds Simon Raikes, who stood down in September after eight years with the Disney-owned broadcaster.
