Leeds indie Homecoming Studios is primed to ‘turbocharge’ its slate after securing backing from angel investor Rosegown Investments.

The indie, set up by former Future Studios chief creative officer John Farrar, recently made its first commissioned programme: Heist: Robbing the Bank of England, a co-production with Soho Studios for Crime+Investigation [main picture].

Farrar said the partnership with Rosegown marks a “transformative step” for Homecoming.

“Our mission is to bridge the gap between traditional and modern production models – from how IP is developed to how it’s funded and distributed. By joining forces with Rosegown, we’re turbo-charging a slate of formats, documentaries and digital series that we’re excited to bring to the market.”

Farrar set up Homecoming last year after five years at Future Studios, where he oversaw series including The Bakersfield Three for HBO Max, ITV1’s The Playboy Bunny Murder and Hearst’s The Eunuch Maker.

Prior to that, he co-founded factual indie Nerd, which was sold to Red Arrow in 2013. He has also been head of development for Raw.

Ravinder Chahal, who runs Rosegown Investments with Marc Collins, hailed Farrar’s “stellar track record” in producing for the UK and US.

“He has that rare combination of creative and deal-making brain that is absolutely essential in today’s market,” Chahal said.

“Homecoming is going to be a fun rollercoaster ride – we are super excited to be a small part of its rise to the top.”

Rosegown also has stakes in Vibrant Television and Little Venice Studios.
