Tern Northern Ireland and London-based Buccaneer Media are both parting ways with their long-standing chief executives.

Brendan Hughes, who has run the Belfast hub of Zinc Media-owned Tern for 15 years, overseeing shows such as BBC daytime series Dr Xand's Con or Cure [pictured], is retiring.

He will be succeeded by Neil Dimmock, who worked on the launch of Tern NI’s Sunday Morning Live when he was in development at BBC Northern Ireland.

Dimmock has recently been a freelance executive producer on the show and will continue in that role as a Tern staffer.

Prior to joining Tern in 2010, Hughes worked on shows such as Channel 4’s Time Team and Blitz Street and BBC2’s Twentieth Century Blues and managed all OBs outside London for the BBC’s Millennium Event. He was also MD of Jeremy Isaacs Productions.

Buccaneer founder exits

Meanwhile, Tony Wood, who founded scripted indie Buccaneer Media in 2013, is standing down to focus on executive producing, including several Buccaneer titles.

The former Lime Pictures creative director has steered Buccanner’s growth as a premium drama outfit, having developed and executive produced all of Buccanner’s output, including ITV’s Marcella, Acorn TV’s Whitstable Pearl and Paramount+ dramas The Burning Girls and The Crow Girl.

His exit follows that of fellow co-chief executive Richard Tulk-Hart, who recently launched TV financing firm Volteo Media.

Piers Vellacott, chief commercial officer, content at Buccaneer’s parent Cineflix, will now oversee the company.
