Sky is hunting medical and ‘investigative’ dramas with a lightness of tone as it looks to fill its scripted slate for 2029.
Sky UK managing director, scripted originals Megan Lyvers said the broadcaster “hasn’t cracked medical” drama and welcomed pitches.
Having ordered two series of upcoming drama War [main picture] and recommissioned Under Salt Marsh, Lyvers is looking for more ‘investigative’ series, she said.
“We do a lot of crime, we do some investigative, we’d like to see different flavours of investigative, it doesn’t all have to be like a Salt Marsh,” she said. “It could be something that’s more of a fun, dysfunctional, lighter tone, and a two-hander.”
More broadly for 2029, she said: “Tonally, we’re looking for shows that are a little lighter”. Nevertheless, she pledged to continue taking creative risks, citing author-led limited series like The Death of Bunny Munro and Possession: “Those are not straightforward shows,” she said.
Lyvers said she wanted to keep working with a “mixed ecology” of producers from small indies like Under Salt Marsh producer Little Door Productions to big companies like The Day of the Jackal producer and NBC stablemate Carnival.
