Factual indie Content Kings has acquired the programme catalogue of indie Brown Bob and hired one of the defunct company’s co-founders in a senior role.

Nicki Gottlieb, who ran Brown Bob with fellow co-founder Jacqueline Hewer for 11 years until its closure in October 2024, becomes chief operating officer of Content Kings, which supplies a regular stream of documentaries for 5.

These include Lip Reading the Royals, which launches on 5 later this month and which Content Kings is eyeing as a format that can be adapted to other figures in the public eye.

Brown Bob titles that will join Content Kings’ library include U&W’s long-running Inside the Ambulance, BBC1’s Fraud Squad and U&Yesterday’s Secrets of the London Underground.

In her new role, Gottlieb will shape Content Kings commercial and strategic direction and will work with the team to developed shows across broadcasters, streamers and platforms.

Content Kings group chief executive Gavin Kay said: “Nicki’s appointment is a fantastic step forward for us. Her track record and vision align perfectly with our ambitions for growth and innovation.”

Gottlieb, meanwhile, identified “a real buzz” at her new employer, adding: “Everyone’s full of ideas and passion for what we do. With our worldwide reach, the possibilities are endless.”
