As someone that comes from an ethnicity that falls under the classification of “BAME” I find the term massively offensive. Specially having worked on shows where higher ups have used the phrase “we need a bame” or “we need more bame”

I recently saw a tiktok video featuring the casting call for the UK version of Six the Musical, which uses the term “Global Majority” which is phrasing I think I’d prefer use but doubt it will catch on quickly in our industry.

TBH... i dont have any strength of feeling about the term...what I do find offensive is that this topic is a distraction to the REAL issues of representation, infront and behind the camera, and the treatment of those communities at all levels.

It doesn't bother me personally, no term is ever going to be perfect and is always going to include unhelpful overlaps and conflations. We need something to help us have constructive conversations about equality though. An alternative could be saying the opposite, like "dominated by white people" instead of "not enough bame people", but that will also be problematic in a lot of ways.
