The story emerging from the set of US movie Rust is deeply troubling: descriptions of cost-cutting, crew walkouts, long days, safety concerns going unheard, non-unionised crew stepping in and the fatal shot was not the first prop gun incident. It's particularly chilling to read this in light of the IATSE union's campaign for improved terms.

Saddest of all is that director of photography Halyna Hutchins, who was killed in the accident, had been pushing for safer working conditions.

"[She] was tearful when the camera crew left, said one crew member who was on the set. "She said, ‘I feel like I’m losing my best friends,’” recalled one of the workers."
