The BBC's return of Celebrity Traitors was one of the most anticipated TV launches of the year, and the audience figures show it. According to overnight data last night's 75-minute opener drew an average of 8.9 million viewers, peaking at just over 9 million.
That makes it the biggest opening episode of The Traitors in the UK to date, across both the celebrity and civilian series. We were treated to plenty of drama alongside a few moments of unexpected comedy, and the final figure is certain to rise once catch-up viewing is counted.
The show is genius and a welcome reminder that well-made, event television still brings audiences together in huge numbers, even in a challenging market. Congratulations to @Studio Lambert and their brilliant production team!
