“So… tell me about yourself. What do you do?”

I have had some very exciting meetings lately with companies I *really* admire, and apparently this is the one question I still need a minute with. (enter stage left: professional lingo panic / crushing British self awareness)

The short answer (for telly people): I’m a Shooting Producer Director who makes documentaries and factual programs. But that just does not paint the whole picture...

I love directing and shooting documentaries, getting dropped into a world I know very little about, meeting the people who care about it most, and working out how to make an audience care too.

I love producing big international shoots, working on access, crew, logistics, securing the interview that cracks the whole story wide open.

I also love making digital and branded content, where the storytelling rules are different but the aim is still the same: make something exciting and engaging that people genuinely connect with.

I have been learning how to translate this mishmash of strings in my bow more clearly through the lessons on the brilliant Talented People A List, (a million thank yous to Kimberly Godbolt!)

It is a work in progress. But it is also a useful reminder that a creative career does not always fit in one very tidy box. And actually, that's probably a good thing?
