And finally, the new Blade Runner 2099 TV show trailer has dropped.
It’s a striking return to the neon soaked, rain slicked world that defined the franchise … but comes with some big changes..
Set 50 years after Blade Runner 2049, Los Angeles has been “reborn, just not by humanity.” A war between humans and replicants has already been fought… and lost by the former. Replicants now hold power, and humans exist as second class citizens.
It’s an interesting direction for the series… albeit not one I’d have expected.
The cast is led by Hunter Schafer as Cora, a fugitive forced to assume the identity of a Blade Runner, and Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh as Olwen, a replicant Blade Runner nearing the end of her lifespan.
Behind the project is showrunner Silka Luisa (Shining Girls), who created and executive produces the series. Jonathan van Tulleken (ShĹŤgun) directed the opening episodes.
Ridley Scott, director of the 1982 original, serves as an executive producer alongside Alcon Entertainment co founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, Scott Free Productions, Michael Green (co writer of Blade Runner 2049), and a team from Amazon MGM Studios.
Industry reports estimate the total budget for the eight episode season at roughly $150 million…approximately $19 million per episode…reflecting the franchise’s signature emphasis on practical sets, practical effects, and high end visual design.
It looks super cool, and a new Blade Runner is always welcome. But with a cult franchise this iconic, expectations are high… because the original set a very high bar. The 50 year time jump and change of direction make this a soft reboot.. So it will have to get the viewers behind the new characters.
Fingers crossed.🤞
Blade Runner 2099 lands on Prime Video on November 25, 2026🚀🚀🔥🔥
