DC's upcoming Clayface could end up being one of the more interesting comic book films in recent years. It reminds me of the first Deadpool movie.
Reportedly made for around $40 million, it's a fraction of what most modern superhero films cost. At a time when blockbuster budgets regularly reach $200 million or more, that's a noticeable shift.
What's also different is the approach.
Clayface is being described as an R-rated body horror film, taking inspiration from movies like The Fly. It's a very different direction for a DC character.
A lower budget doesn't automatically make a better film. We'll have to wait and see whether it works.
But if it does, it could encourage studios to experiment more with smaller, genre focused stories instead of trying to make every comic book film the biggest event of the year.
It worked for Deadpool… obviously.. it has to be good to work., but it’s interesting.
I like the trailer.. but don’t love it.. it’s piqued my interest.
Anyone else have thoughts?
