Stepping into the role of writer on One For The Road pushed me further creatively than any project I’ve worked on so far.

What started as a co-written idea during development evolved into me taking over the script throughout pre-production — reshaping scenes, strengthening character arcs, and connecting moments that felt honest, gritty and real.

The story centres around the decline of the British pub and the people fighting to hold onto the last place that still feels like home. Writing it meant digging into themes of community, addiction, loneliness, humour, and survival — balancing dark moments with the kind of warmth and comedy you only really find in Northern pubs.

Being on set and watching words move from page to performance was one of the most rewarding experiences of my career so far. Every rewrite, late-night draft, problem solve and conversation with cast and crew helped shape the final film into something incredibly personal.

As I get closer to graduating from MetFilm School, projects like this remind me exactly why I moved from photography into film and television storytelling.

Really proud of what the team created and excited for what’s next.
Huge Shoutout to the Crew:
Josh Crulley: Director
Georgie Sherridan: Producer
ben Cowan: 1st AD
Maia Gordon: DOP
Charlette Ashley: Production Design
Tessi Harri Carrol: BTS
