Fantastic to be in conversation with @CarloMole (Director) and @LorraineEvans (Producer) for our first TM Masterclass of 2026 on Wednesday, where we discussed their latest documentary Fake Friend: The Ticket Scammer (Spun Gold / Method in Motion).
The session explored the making of this gripping true crime film, which tells the story of Miles Hart, a charming insider who scammed friends and acquaintances out of millions through fake Glastonbury tickets, VIP passes, and exclusive event access, before disappearing as the 2024 festival approached.
At the start of the webinar, we also shared the project’s origins: first developed in October 2024 when Matt Taylor from Method in Motion brought the story to Spun Gold Exec Sarah Trigg for a BBC Three / Current Affairs regional pitching opportunity aimed at Midlands-based companies. Supported by Create Central and Creative UK, the project was shaped over six months before being greenlit by BBC commissioner Mark Harrison.
Carlo and Lorraine then took us inside the creative and ethical challenges of telling a sensitive, unfolding fraud story from centring victim voices to structuring a narrative as the scam unravelled in real time.
Catch up to discover:
How complex true-crime projects are developed and commissioned
The realities of long-form investigative storytelling
How filmmakers balance ethics, access, and narrative
