Here is a very special video I designed and animated in August this year for Screen 3 productions. It was written by the Refugee Council for UK refugees and has now been translated into 7 languages: Urdu, Tigrinya, Pashto, Kurdish Sorani, Farsi, Arabic, and Amharic.

The film is called 'Managing Housing Expectations for Refugees.' It is made for people living in asylum hotels - those waiting for a decision or who need to move after getting refugee status. False ideas about housing benefits often come from smugglers, friends, or family who may not know the full truth. The video gives simple, clear advice about the reality and what happens next.

As for the politics, we seem to hear only negative stories about migrants, refugees and asylum seekers in the media every day. How about seeing refugees as human beings who are confused and anxious too? Being a Londoner it was a priviledge to work on a meaningful film about a young refugee living in London, deciding on his future.

It was a dream project to have a client who gave me creative freedom from the start. Their brand guidelines gave a good starting point which I could expand on. You can see my process on the making of this explainer film on my website: https://mattwasser.com/refugee-council-animation
