My inbox is like a bad relationship.
Full of mixed signals, long silences, and the occasional exciting message that goes absolutely nowhere. đ©đ
You know the ones:
âWeâd love to keep you in mind for future projects.â
âYou sound perfect for this role!â
âJust checking your availabilityâŠâ
âŠand then⊠nothing. đ
Ghosted. Again.
Sometimes I swear Iâve been love-bombed by a hirer.
Being freelance is basically like modern dating, but with more attachments, less closure, and far fewer cocktails. đž
You refresh your emails like a reflex.
You get a dopamine hit every time you see a new message â only to realise itâs LinkedIn telling you someone viewed your profile (again). Or worse, itâs spam.
And yet, we stay optimistic.
We keep applying.
We keep showing up.
We keep believing the next âAre you free next week?â might actually mean âYouâre booked.â đ
Because despite the silence, the chasing, the uncertainty â thereâs still nothing quite like the buzz when that email lands...
The one that says, âWeâd love to have you on the team.â
Instant serotonin. đ§ âš
So, to all my fellow freelancers refreshing their inboxes, coffee in hand, trying not to take it personally â I see you. đ
Youâre not being ghosted because youâre not good enough.
Youâre being ghosted because the industry is chaotic, everyoneâs overstretched, and half the time, theyâre waiting for budget sign-off from someone whoâs âOOO until Monday.â
Stay hopeful, stay funny, stay caffeinated.
Your next âreply allâ moment is coming. âđȘ
