War Paint: Women at War has its UK broadcast premiere on Sky Arts this evening, Remembrance Sunday 9th November at 9pm, following on from the nationwide cinema tour.
I am immensely proud to have been Assistant Producer on this timely and important documentary, working on the documentary from the early stages of development, as well as filming the interview with artist Fiona Banner (AKA The Vanity Press) in her studio. I hope that this film can play a role in raising awareness of the phenomenal power of art and creativity to speak truth to oppression, heal, communicate, protest, subvert, empower, and unite.
War Paint is a feature documentary shining a light on the trailblazing role of women war artists, championing the female perspective on conflict through art.
A Margy Kinmonth film, Executive Produced by Maureen Murray
Artists featured include Dame Rachel Whiteread, Zhanna Kadyrova, Maggi Hambling, Assil Diab, Dame Laura Knight, Marcelle Hanselaar, Cornelia Parker, Maya Lin, Shirin Neshat, Lee Miller and many more female voices - made with an entirely female crew.
"A documentary of historical importance...absorbing, provocative and transporting" Metro
All three films directed by Margy will screen on Sky Arts this evening, as part of her trilogy of documentaries exploring art and conflict. This is the first time anywhere in the world all three films have been screened together.
6pm: Eric Ravilious – Drawn To War
7.45pm: War Art with Eddie Redmayne
9pm: War Paint – Women At War
