The biggest roadblock to a career change isnāt your CV.
Itās your identity. š
āWhat do you do?ā
Sounds innocent ā until youāre in between projects or considering a change. Suddenly it feels existential.
Iāve watched (and been) the person who gets stuck because you canāt quite picture introducing yourself any other way. āIf Iām not a TV Producer / Senior Producer / whateverās been on my email signature for years⦠then who am I?ā
We spend so long wearing our job titles like armour that when we take them off, we forget thereās still a person underneath ā with a ton of transferable skills, experience, and potential.
Hereās what I keep reminding myself:
1ļøā£ Your job title is a container, not your contents.
2ļøā£ Discomfort is normal ā thereās grief in outgrowing an old identity.
3ļøā£ You donāt start from zero. Every success still travels with you.
4ļøā£ Your identity evolves. Itās supposed to.
The truth is, changing lanes ā from TV to experiential, from production to events, from broadcast to brand ā doesnāt erase who you are. It expands it.
Weāre not starting again; weāre adding chapters.
So if youāre reintroducing yourself right now, remember: your worth isnāt tied to a job title. Itās in everything youāve learned, delivered, solved, led, and created along the way. š
And the right team will see YOU.
