So the other day I let myself get dragged down a little by the current issues in the industry and my predicament in it. I have completed the universal credit web portal, because they consider 3 applications a week to be sufficient, they set up the portal so you could upload 1200 job applications. So the other day I let myself get dragged down a little by the current issues in the industry and my predicament in it. I have completed the universal credit web portal, because they consider 3 applications a week to be sufficient, they set up the portal so you could upload 1200 job applications. Last month I reached the limit, in approx 2 years, if you did the bare minimum that the job centre wanted then that would take you 7 years. Added to that I have applied for jobs, not only in companies I worked for before, but also with productions and shows that I have done previously. And yes I did the thing that makes me cringe, I have even emailed Line Producers on the show to tell them I'd applied. And not only did I not get a response from the Line Producer, I didn't get responses from HR either.
So I got really low and messaged Matt from Talent manager, as we have had quite decent chats at networking events and I ask him about the myth that is Black Listing, because I thought as well as it being tough here, I also assumed that people had been told to not employ me, for whatever role I applied. Yes I over thought, and yes it was stupid. But Matt nicely said he didn't think it was a thing and helped me get my head up. Since then a wonderful friend of mine contacted me about a role I had applied for, and although unsuccessful, she gave me the most wonderful feedback, when she didn't have to.
So we all have our bad days, we all struggle to carry on, I once told the job centre (years and years ago) that job applications are like you sticking your head out of a window expecting a kiss, and instead you get a punch in the face, how many days does that happen before you don't want to put your head out of the window anymore? Well I stopped for a short while and now my face is front and centre out of the window again. I am not giving up, I career changed into the TV world, and I will make a fist of it, even if it kills me lol. So don't give up, please keep trying, I know I am, and just remember, "This too shall pass"
