They say, “Never meet your heroes…”
Well, I have been lucky enough to meet a few of mine and I would have to disagree.
Jim Moir (aka Vic Reeves) A comedy hero no doubt. But also a hero of a man to work with. I had the pleasure, in my younger days, of performing in some sketches with him on two series CBBC's Ministry of Curious Stuff. He was in earliest, out last, up late at the hotel, sharing stories, always giving with energy and enthusiasm, laughs and advice. He, quite rightly, loves his job. And I loved working with him.
Years later I directed some branded content for Transpennine Express and Craft Films - 'Comedy Connections' with the also delightful Vernon Kay. It was Vernon chatting to comedians on trains. Great presenter. Cracking guests. Fascinating conversations. Wonderful views and (not just saying this) terrific trains. I even got to beep the horn.
One of our guests was Jim. And he was the same as he ever was. Enthusiastic, funny, warm, told us brilliant stories, many we could not fit into the episode. He had Vernon in tears of laughter talking about how far apart he likes to draw eyes. And he remembered me. We reminisced. Lovely man. Hero.
