With so many people out of work, countless freelancers are losing everything they’ve spent their careers working for - savings, cars, houses and precious belongings.
So if you have two people working a few days a few each, instead of one overworked and burnt out person, it keeps twice as many of the eager workforce happy, engaged and stood them losing their homes!
It feels like a simple way they could help, without affecting production budgets.

With the UK Television Industry in such decline, scores of highly skilled workers are losing everything they’ve worked for - not just savings but their homes, cars and precious belongings too. | John Bonny
With the UK Television Industry in such decline, scores of highly skilled workers are losing everything they’ve worked for - not just savings but their homes, cars and precious belongings too.Because such vast numbers of people are out of work, on the rare occasion a job does come up, companies are inundated with applicants. It’s like a horrible game of musical chairs - with about 100 people trying to cram onto 3 seats. It’s just not sustainable for the workers.So…. It makes me wonder why production companies and channels aren’t doing more to support this eager workforce by offering job shares?Even at the best of times, a job in TV production is incredibly demanding - so much so, people struggle to manage stess, sleep and certainly childcare. So why not employ two people, doing two or three days a week each, instead of one, overworked and burnt out person? You can help twice as many people through these lean times and although they’d not be earning their usual salary, it stops people losing their homes and livelihoods. And I think if we’re honest, most people would bite your hand off for a little more work/life balance.#tvproduction #television #jobs #recruitment #jobshare
