A wonderful 6 months Line Producing at Story Films with Director Keely Winstone to make ‘Death in the Desert: The Nurse Helen Mystery’ - part of the Secret History strand which airs TONIGHT on Channel 4. Although it happened at the end of the seventies it has striking parallels to the politics of today - a story of a government fixated on oil deals with the Saudis possibly turning a blind eye to murder and cover ups - watch and decide for yourself .
Keely was tenacious and passionate throughout the project, one which she had fought for many years to make ( I recommend her previous work , esp C4s The Spy Who Died Twice) . And proving that even with a tiny team and budget, you can bring quality to the screen. We also had a great edit and shoot team in the UK and US ,especially DOP Ross Pimlott , amazing Post Production at Roundtable and once again the brilliant Adam Hopkins , one of the best execs out there . And thanks to all at Story, especially Josh Wilkins and Peter Beard .
As our fantastic commissioning editor Shaminder Nahal at C4 says ‘There is so much going on in the world and so many questions that we’re all asking…..Reaching into our past is crucial to helping us understand all these things ‘
