So they changed the name of the movie for the 2nd week of release at the cinema?
Marvel movie ‘*Thunderbolts’ is now ‘The New avengers’.
It’s a move many were expecting. What wasn’t expected is that they would wait for the week after release.. and change it for week 2 of its run.
The movie has been getting a highly respectable 94% on rotten tomatoes audience rating.. and 88% for critics. It is still listed as *Thunderbolts on the site at the time of speaking.
And here lies the problem. While it might get a bit of publicity,I think it will likely just confuse more people. Anyone looking for ‘The New Avengers’ in rotten tomatoes right now is taken to the 1960’s tv show of that name.
It’s not the first time a movie has changed its title for the second week. Birds of Prey had this added for week 2 :- “and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn”…Presumably because no one realised it had Harley Quinn in it.
This feels more like a genuine marketing attempt to stir up excitement. But not sure it will be too well received.
The original ‘Avengers Assemble movie’ was the climax of dozens of movies all building to that cinematic event. Each characters arc felt earned. This feels a bit tacked on.
But if it works.. I can see name changes becoming the tip of the iceberg when it does to changing movies for the 2nd week. Potentially new post credit scenes.. or even some extended scenes in week 2. Anything to increase a movies cinematic run.
Does anyone think this is a bold clever move ?.. or just confusing for the casual audience?
