Scott Toms posted an update on the TM Hub

So my friends keep asking, what is the cut off point? Seeing as all I’ve had work wise this year is rejections (even from the one interview I have had), when is it time to start looking elsewhere? When do you consider jumping ship.

Well last week, after the interview rejection, was the first time I started to question myself. Why do I keep doing this, I apply for jobs I am very much capable of doing, even under the disability interview scheme, and I don’t even get a response.

What is this industry doing this, why does the industry I love so much become the thing that is giving me the worst pain I know. And now, I’ve been so long in this industry that I am not valid to apply for jobs outside the industry. So fun times for me

@ScottToms So sorry to hear the Industry crisis is making you feel this way. Please know you're not alone. So many equally experienced and talented people are similarly affected. It's just awful and my heart goes out to you. My advice would be to keep working on looking for opportunities outside of the industry. . TV people are so adaptable and creative and I know that your transferrable skills will be appreciated elsewhere. Although I also get how hard it must be finding out just where.

@ScottToms I'm not sure what the cut off point is, for myself, and when I feel I'm almost there, something happens to make me believe in possibilities, again. My friends tend to applaud me for challenging myself, especially with a career change, but they wouldn't do it themselves. Where to next, who knows, it's an adventure!

@ScottToms Whilst I have been lucky to have continued working during this crisis, stagnant pay has driven me out. I can no longer afford to keep my head above water when the pay is £60 less per day based on inflation as to when I first started 6 years ago. When we have to pay travel and accommodation out of our own pocket, the camel’s back has finally broken.

I went scouring the internet for any job. I have an interview next month at Virgin Atlantic as an apprentice aircraft engineer. Completely took me by surprise when I got a call for interview, but it’s crazy going from camera operator to ensuring planes fly!

I’ve always seen life as an adventure. I never really targeted camera operating, I fell into it. Now the time has come for the next adventure whatever that may be.

Whilst I am very upset that I will be leaving TV, it is better to grab the bull by the horns and do it on your own terms.
