As the researcher on this episode of Escape to the Country, I face a challenge: my top pick is the couple’s dream home, but it’s somewhere they don’t expect. And they don’t know it yet.

The area and property turn out to be even better than they imagined. Convincing my team that going the extra mile after traveling hours by car to Scotland was worth it was no small feat.

The couple steps inside and their faces light up. The stars align for them after a decade-long search for a house in Scotland.

It’s a great feeling to put my research and people skills to meaningful use. Writing parts of the script, peppering the episode with rugby puns, giving feedback on improving parts of the script, and writing presenter Steve Brown’s final piece to camera meant I could finally use my writing skills. And composing and snapping the photo that got used on BBC iPlayer was such a treat.

Not to mention, I single handedly got all those ducks to flock on camera without feeding them.

But to get to this place, I knew that I needed to go off script in our initial meeting. I did this with all the couples. Asking more questions to solve their 10-year search seemed like a natural no-brainer. I was right, and this was the best feeling. It’s also the best feeling to personally move Escape to the Country to a place where selling houses and fulfilling life goals is the norm, especially in today’s cost of living crisis.

And for the couple’s exciting new beginning… Lang may yer lum reek! 🏡🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
