This year, I took a significant further step in supporting my colleagues by becoming a certified Mental Health First Aider. As someone who has worked in television production for 28 years, I’ve seen first-hand the intense pressures that are a daily part of the job for crew at all levels. Previously overlooked, the impact on mental health is finally being recognised.

In an industry that’s built on creativity and collaboration, looking after the wellbeing of teams behind the scenes is just as important to me as the stories we’re telling on screen. I’m proud to be a part of the growing conversation around mental health in TV as more attention is being given to ensuring our work environments are supportive and safe.

As a colleague, friend and now as a Mental Health First Aider, I’m committed to being there for all of my colleagues by listening, offering support, and helping them access the resources they need. By prioritising mental health, we can all create a more supportive, productive and positive culture in the TV industry.

Let’s keep the conversation going and continue advocating for mental health support in every production team not just on hashtag#WorldMentalHealthDay but EVERY day.
