Incredibly sad news today to find out Freemantle is closing LABEL1 TELEVISION

I had the absolute pleasure of working at Label1 when they were developing their first Pilot in 2015- on what would become The Job Interview. Some titans of television and absolute gems of my personal life walked through Label 1's doors; and I loved working there on The Job Interview and then the first two series of Hospital - the BAFTA nominated, everything else award winner of a series which saw radical change to how hospitals and the NHS were depicted on television - lifting the lid on the crisis of cuts and staffing shortages, wait lists and overworked teams, and capturing the moment St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, responded to the Westminster Terror Attack.

(Can you tell I have a personally emotional connection to this series? It's still a top five, most proud to have worked on show of my career)

Label1 gave me my first Producer credit back in 2017, and later my first Edit Producer credit on Nurses in 2023. It also introduced me to some of my best friends, and to a bunch of firemen when our office burned down one Easter weekend. They empowered me to produce in my own style, and bring empathy and collaboration to storytelling.

It's a huge loss for documentaries and another devastating blow to the industry.
I am grateful to Simon Dickson, Lorraine Charker-Phillips, @JackieWaldock and Jo Taylor for taking chance (after chance!) on me over the years, as well as Tom Currie - They knew how to find stories, develop their talent and build a stellar team. It is no small thing to say in a world of freelancing, there are some companies that always felt like home.
