Talented TM-ers on TV - THIS WEEK Johnny Vegas: Carry On Glamping, Wednesday 5th May 10pm on Channel 4.
This week we hear from @ClaireTravers Smith , Senior Edit Producer
What sounded like a simple premise - a famous comedian with a dream to set up a glamping site with upcycled static vehicles - ended up a complete roller coaster. Everything that could have gone wrong did, including a certain global pandemic, so the production team really had to roll with the multiple punches. The edit (and the final stages of filming) happened entirely during lockdown, so overseeing three edits from my spare room was quite something! Another challenge was the tone of the show, as there were many different ways we could have cut it…with a personality as colourful as Johnny and a project that experienced so many curve balls, the biggest challenge was cutting it down to just four episodes!
I learnt the importance of good communication and putting your trust in your editors to get the best out of the material. I worked with three incredibly experienced and talented editors (Mickey McKnight, Al Sutcliffe and Tom Heaney) that made a tricky and hectic remote job infinitely easier. I also learnt the importance of that edit suite rapport (something I'm sure most people in post-production will agree with), and I can't wait to be back in a suite with another human being.
