Dear TV Friends, this may be slightly premature for the current state of affairs, but I have a question about rates? I am weighing up the pros and cons of becoming self-employed and looking at the rate checker here and BECTU's card I must admit I am a little confused.

Firstly, unless you are self-employed surely your rate is always now with holiday pay, which is added on with you NI contributions? So the PAYE rate you give is sort of like the base rate with holiday pay and NI then added on by the company? BUT, if this is the case then when you become self-employed should you be working out this final figure? Because in all honesty you're doing yourself a injustice otherwise saying the same figure as before. AND, does anyone have that calculation?

Secondly, are BECTU's rates for PAYE and self-employed? For tax reasons I know at a certain point you can no-longer be PAYE, but again with the questions above this seems a little oversimplified.

All help much appreciated!
